Dutch institute in Damascus
The Netherlands Institute for Academic Studies in Damascus (NIASD) is a Dutch foundation which aims to advance and maintain the academic relations between Syria and The Netherlands. In relation to that the institute also aims to advance and maintain the relations between both countries in the fields of culture and international co-operation.The institute is run by Mrs Astrid Rijbroek. The institute supports and promotes academic relations between the Netherlands and Syria in different fields of study: archaeology, Arabic studies, anthropology, history, history of art, Assyriology, social sciences, languages, economics, international relations, hydrology, agricultural studies, architecture, technical sciences, natural sciences, medicine, etc. The institute offers for example housing and other supporting facilities to Dutch scholars and students in Syria. Every year the Tell Sabi Abyad team makes good use of the services of the institute!
